Everything becomes infinitely more difficult when your child can't communicate his wants and needs to you. I also have this intense fear that someone is going to mistreat him because of that, so I became an even more fierce protector and like I said, Mama Bear! Rourke has made a lot of advancements after being placed in a developmental preschool and we, as a family, celebrate every win, every small step forward! Most recently, he said his first words out loud since he was 18 months old. He LOVES to swim. He would live in the pool in the summertime if we would let him. One afternoon we were swimming and it got to be suppertime, so we made him get out. I took his arm and said, \"Come here and let me take off your life jacket, Rourke\". He jerked his arm away and said, \"No Mama!!!\". Imagine my shock and utter surprise! I think I let him swim until dark that day!
